Eating disorders are becoming more prevalent and severe. Sufferers are presenting in all different arenas, from primary care, through to acute care and specialist services as well as schools, colleges and universities. These patients are high risk and complex, and can be challenging to manage.

Due to the complexity of the condition, clinicians, allied healthcare professionals and care-givers across all domains, require skill, knowledge and confidence to help sufferers with eating disorders.

Our one-day training course includes:
  • eating disorder diagnosis
  • classification
  • aetiology
  • managment of very high-risk cases
  • an over-view of clinincal presentations including risk-assessment, treatments of eating disorders, clinical scenariors
  • an over-view of the use of the Mental Health Act, mental capacity issues, decision making and recent case law

Expert Speaker - Dr Matthew Cahill MBBS MRCPsych DipPsychMed

Dr Matthew Cahill is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Clinincal Lead for the Cheshire and Wirral Partnership Eatining Disorder Service. He is an elected member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists Faculty of Eating Disorders Executive Committee, a member of the North West regional MARSIPAN (Management of Really Sick Patients with Anorexia Nervosa) Group, and Honorary Clinincal tutor at Liverpool University. He lead three community clinincs and a fourteen-bedded eating disorder inpatient unti covering a population of four million. Matthew treat patients with a range of eating disorders including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorders amongst others, working in a multidisciplinary approach, sharing skills with dietitians, social workers, psychologists, eating disorder practitioners and occupational therapists. He works closely with families and carers. Matthew understands how devastating these disorders can be for the individual, those close to them, and clinicians involved with their care, and he is passionate about sharing his knowledge and experiance to help anyone manage these complex illnesses.
